The Environmental Risk, Emergency and Disaster Management course is designed to offer students the necessary skills and knowledge needed to identify, evaluate, and manage environmental risks, emergencies, and disasters. The course explores environmental hazards and how they can endanger communities, how to develop a comprehensive emergency management plan, and mitigating measures that can be implemented to minimize the risk of adverse impact on the environment.

Module 2: Emergency Management Plan Development

– Understanding emergency management plans

– Steps in emergency management plan development

– Response and recovery planning

Module 3: Disasters Response and Recovery

– Understanding disaster response

– Identifying priorities during and after disasters

– Regaining the confidence of stakeholders after a disaster

Module 4: Mitigating the Impacts of Environmental Hazards

– Techniques for minimizing the environmental risks

– Environmental remediation approaches

– Contingency plans for environmental hazards

Module 5: Legislation and Standards in Environmental Risk Management

– Environmental legislation and regulations worldwide

– Environmental management system (EMS) standards

– ISO 14001 Standard

EXAM PROCEDURE:

The exam will be conducted online. Students will receive an email notification on the final day of the course indicating the exam dates and times. The exam will last two hours and comprises of forty (40) multiple-choice questions worth two points each. The minimum pass mark for the exam is 60%. Certificates of completion will be issued to students who pass the exam after the final grading of results.
